Are you fucking kidding me? (or why the media in this country is completely fucking useless).

With BP continuing to kill the Gulf of Mexico barrel by barrel and the evil and cold-hearted bastards in the rethuglican party continuing to deny the extension of unemployment benefits to the chronically out-of-work, take a guess at what the lead stories are in the Main-Stream Media (M$M) here in 'Murkka?

Lindsay Lohan is (finally) going to jail and everyone's all a tizzy over where LeBron James will go next year to play basketball (and still not make the Finals).

Yup. I shit you not. A soon-to-be-behind-bars bleach-blonde "former" coke-tramp, who is finally going where any other normal offender (i.e. non-celebrity) would have gone the nano-second the guilty verdict was reached, and a tattooed basketball player's decision about which new team gets the privilege of paying him millions and millions of dollars per year despite the fact that the team he is currently on still hasn't won a title with him (and the same number without him), are the lead stories in the US media.

I honestly don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I could go on and on here about all of the other stories that perhaps should be considered to be just a wee-bit more important than this intellectual brain-candy like say, the hearings currently ongoing for the vacant spot on the Supreme Court, you know, an appointment that lasts a lifetime and has the potential to have a significant impact on how this country is run. Or, how BP is continuing to stall, delay and sometimes just flat-out deny access to data and information relating to just how badly they have fucked the southern coast of the U.S.

But no. That sort of news requires people to listen to big words, in long sentences with sometimes confusing concepts that don't directly impact their daily lives and are therefore tiresome and too much bother to really pay attention to. So instead we get this hybrid celebro-sport-tainment shit that is supposed to take the place of 'hard news' and keep the masses happy with the lurid details of fucked-up celebs and athletes private lives. Why? Maybe it's because their own lives are so utterly shallow, dull and uninteresting that the only way to stimulate the under-used organ in their cranial cavity is to live vicariously through these people they will never meet. Think about the number of people that openly wept when Princess Diana died. Why? Did they know her personally? Did she owe them money? Fuck no. But people felt like they knew her, and she them, because of the M$M, and so they wept, uncontrollably, over the death of a woman they'd never met.

And so here we are, hard news is deemed too hard to understand so it is marginalized and trivialized as being 'boring' and 'dull' and instead we get fluffy bullshit pieces about famously rich people doing whatever it is they do, and you know what? That is just what the ruling class wants. The M$M is merely producing what their masters are telling them to. As anyone who knows their history will tell you it's been done before. By another empire that thought it ruled the whole world too. But back then it was called 'Bread and Circuses', nowadays it's called "American Idol/Who wants to be a millionaire/Survivor/So you think you can dance" but it's aim is the same. Keep the masses dumb and happy and they won't notice you robbing them blind.

And judging by the most recent headlines in the US news media we are getting well and truly fucked.
